Psychologist

Dr. Amanda Moore is a licensed clinical psychologist and a member of the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (O.P.Q.). She is a graduate of the McGill University Clinical Psychology doctoral program. She has diverse experience conducting individual and group therapy with teens and adults across the lifespan in various clinical settings, such as private practice and public tertiary care clinics. Her areas of expertise include emotion regulation, body image, disordered eating, self-harm, suicidal ideation and relationship and attachment difficulties.

Amanda has received extensive training in and primarily works from a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) perspective, which is an approach that allows individuals to gain better insight into their emotional experiences and helps them acquire tools that allow for more effective management of their emotions and progress towards their goals. In order to tailor treatment towards an individual’s specific needs, she often incorporates other approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

In terms of her approach to therapy, Amanda understands the value of a positive working relationship with her clients. She takes an understanding and non-judgmental approach to therapy that fosters a comfortable and open environment in session where people can discuss parts of themselves that may be difficulty to share. She has experience working with and strives to provide a safe space for individuals coming from diverse cultural/religious backgrounds, socioeconomic status, gender identities, sexual orientations and those who struggle with various psychological difficulties.

Amanda utilizes her background in human motivation research to help individuals clarify their personal goals and foster autonomous motivation to help them move towards change. She aims to foster an environment of mutual collaboration as she believes that therapy is most effective when both the therapist and client are collaboratively working together toward an understanding of the patient’s circumstances and goals for change.
